Warrior ‘D’ shuts out Cleburne County

HEFLIN – The Cherokee County Warriors posted their second shutout of the 2020 football season Friday night in Heflin with a 21-0 Class 4A, Region 4 football victory at Cleburne County.

The Warriors (7-2, 4-1) held Cleburne County (2-6, 1-4) to just 165 total yards and had five interceptions in the game. Whit Johnson picked off a pair of passes, while Conner Elrod, Jack Amos and Walker Pruitt had an interception each.

Cade Hopper and Damien Ramsey accounted for all three Warrior touchdowns. Hopper connected with Ramsey on a 13-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter. Ramsey added a 5-yard scoring run in the second quarter and Hopper capped the scoring with a 1-yard run in the third quarter.

Ramsey led the Warriors with 146 yards and a touchdown on 27 carries. Hopper hit on 8 of his 20 pass attempts for 60 yards and a touchdown. He also ran for 22 yards on five totes with a score.
Devante Cantrell led the Tigers with 87 yards on 19 carries.

Cherokee County hosts Jacksonville on Friday with the second playoff spot from Region 4 on the line.
