Warriors bringing home several state medals from the beach

GULF SHORES – The Cherokee County High School track and field teams won several medals at the Class 4A state track and field meet in Gulf Shores over the weekend.

The Lady Warriors’ 4×400 meter relay team earned gold after running a time of 4:11.33. Kaylee Green also claimed a gold medal in the girls discus (105-01). She also finished ninth in the shot put (30-01.50).

Jack Samitt won three ambulatory events: the 100 meter dash (23.85), the 200 meter dash (49.70) and the shot put (7-07.50).

The Lady Warrior 4×100 meter relay team took silver after posting a time of 50.95 seconds.

Whit Johnson brought home bronze in the boys 100 meter dash (11.26). He also took fourth in the 200 meter dash (22.46) and was also part of the Warrior boys fourth-place 4×400 meter relay team that posted a time of 3:34.67.

Sidney Johnson claimed fourth in the girls 400 meter dash (1:00.30). She was also fifth in the 200 meter dash (27.53).

Mary Hayes Johnson finished fifth in the girls 100 meter dash (13.21) and eighth in the 400 meter dash (1:02.30). Lamycal Mitchell managed fifth place in the boys 300 meter hurdles (43.97).

The Lady Warrior 4×800 meter relay team finished 10th with a time of 11:45.63. Donice Dupree delivered a time of 1:04.32 to finish 13th in the girls 400 meter dash. Audrey Green was 14th in the girls long jump (14-01.00), and Isaac Hunter was 17th in the boys shot put (37-02.50).

The Lady Warriors finished sixth overall as a team in the 4A girls standings. They earned a total of 42 points. Brooks won the 4A girls meet with 75 points. The Warrior boys were 12th with 23 points. Bibb County won the 4A boys meet with 80 points.
