Weather Update From Cherokee County EMA Director Shawn Rogers

WEATHER UPDATE FROM CHEROKEE COUNTY EMA DIRECTOR SHAWN ROGERS

(The NWS) Birmingham held a 4:00am briefing (on Friday) and the weather system is a bit more serious than originally anticipated

The system has shifted further north quite a bit which puts us in a position to receive ¼  – 1 inch on the northern end of the county and ½ – 2 inches on the southern half. As I said yesterday it’s going to be a prolonged event however the predictions are that it will be moving out somewhere around 2 – 4 PM.

The biggest concern for Cherokee County will be bridges. The snow should start falling around 6 AM and continue until about 2 PM transitioning back into rain before moving out of the area.

Predicted accumulations have increased for Cherokee County. These accumulations will primarily be in areas of higher elevation and grassy areas. Also remember there will be a hard freeze Friday night into Saturday morning so drive with caution as Black Ice will be a potential hazard.
