In area high school football games from Friday night, Class 6A Oxford edged Gadsden City 6-0.
In Class 5A, Etowah remained unbeaten with a 37-7 victory at Brewer, Southside-Gadsden dominated Scottsboro 28-6, and Fort Payne dropped Arab 20-15.
In class 4A Jacksonville cruised past Cherokee County 40-14. Alexandria picked up their first win as the Valley Cubs outdistanced Hokes Bluff 48-28.
Class 3A, No. 2 Piedmont moved to 3-0 on the season with a 41-7 Region 5 victory over Glencoe.
In class 2A, Region 7 North Sand Mountain spoiled Sand Rock’s homecoming celebration. The Bison outscored the Wildcats 34-13. At Section, the Gaston Bulldogs knocked off the Lions by a score of 19 to 14.
In Class 1A, Cedar Bluff notched their first win of the season as the Tigers downed Coosa Christian 49 to 20. At Collinsville, the Panthers capped their homecoming as they eased past Woodville 35-12. In a non-region game, the Ragland Purple Devils handed Gaylesville their first loss 43 to 28.
In college football today, Jacksonville State celebrates Band Day when the Gamecocks host the University of North Alabama. Over 1,000 area high school musicians and entertainers will join the JSU Marching Southerners for an on field performance. That game begins under the lights on Burgess-Snow Field in Jacksonville at 7 o’clock tonight.
