WEIS Radio Open Mic Political Candidate Forum Set for 6:00pm Monday

Tuesday June 5th is Election Day – and Cherokee County certainly has its fair share of much talked about contests.

In the race for Cherokee County Sheriff, Centre Police Chief Kirk Blankenship is challenging incumbent Jeff Shaver and three candidates are vying for the position of Circuit Court Judge in the 9th Judicial Circuit, Place #2 Andrew Hairston, Scott Lloyd and Jeff McCurdy; political newcomer local veterinarian Roger Nichols is running against incumbent Kimball Parker in the race for Cherokee County Commission, District II while for State Senator District #10, it’s Mack Butler and Andrew Jones going head to head, and for State Representative District #39 it’s T.J. Maloney and Ginny Shaver, vying for the seat left vacant after Richard Lindsey, who had served in the State Legislature since 1983, had announced his decision not to seek office again.

There are also two races for Cherokee County Board of Education posts.  For Place #3 those candidates include Lisa Chandler and Michael W. Westbrook and for Place #4 Jayla McElrath and incumbent Lisa McKissick.

Polls will be open Tuesday from 7:00am – 7:00pm.  Photo ID is required to vote.  Please get out and exercise your right to vote.

WEIS Radio will provide live election night coverage starting at 7:00.

Also tonight (Monday), be sure to join us for the WEIS Radio Open Mic Political Candidate Forum starting at 6:00.

Each local candidate will have five minutes to address the audience and state their platform, and make their appeal to the voters of Cherokee County.

This will not be a “question and answer” event.

Again, that begins at 6:00 this evening.
