HD-Soccer-15

Parents if you’re searching for something to get your kids off the couch – off the phone – and off the ‘net for a while, well, there’s something you may want to suggest to them:  fresh air, fun, exercise and learning that’ll last a lifetime.

It all comes in the form of the Weiss Lake Soccer Association.

We recently spoke with Coach Barry Anderson – who stopped by WEIS Radio to invite those who think they may be interested, to find out more about the game and WEISS Lake Soccer:

Coach Anderson says that much of their soccer program is centered around learning to be responsible, not only when youngsters are on the field, or at practice – but in regard to their dedication to other things in life, such as making sure they do their homework and so on.

Each soccer practice lasts 90 minutes; games are two thirty minute halves with about a ten-minute break between.

During his visit to the WEIS Radio studios Coach Anderson brought along a young man who started out playing pee wee football, yet later became involved in soccer and following that, acting as an assistant coach last year.

19 year old Anthony Rocco said when he first became involved with the sport, he was quick to find out that it was a great workout and was important as a means of keeping fit – that, in addition to just being a whole lot of fun.

Rocco has his sights set on becoming a physical therapist, and his class schedule this year is going to determine the amount of time he is actually able to spend coaching but he hopes to devote as much time as possible to working in the sport he loves and has learned a lot from.

For more information call Barry Anderson at (256) 630-0668 or visit the Weiss Lake Soccer Association Facebook page.

Even though the season kicks off this Saturday, late sign-ups will continue, so don’t hesitate to call.
