WEIS Radio’s Own Jerry Baker Receives Award for Increasing ADHD Awareness

Jerry Baker Receives Award for Increasing ADHD Awareness

Jerry Baker received the Outstanding Service Award for promoting ADHD education at the 11th Annual Southeastern Regional ADHD Conference at the University of Alabama. An influential civic leader in Cherokee County, Jerry has used his voice and position to increase ADHD awareness while simultaneously reducing stigma. During this time, he has partnered with Chris Dendy to help share scientific information and strategies to help our children with ADHD.

His efforts to help educate others about ADHD have occurred across several different arenas. First he always welcomes Chris to come for radio interviews on ADHD topics ranging from homework completion to discussions about the important of medication in treating ADHD. He always promotes community ADHD education programs.

Jerry has gone above and beyond promoting ADHD education, he has sought more in-depth knowledge about ADHD. Both he and his wife, Linda, attended a 3-hour ADHD education training and became certified as ADHD Ambassadors.

Jerry and Linda have a special interest in this field because they have a grandson and great-grandson who face challenges with ADHD, Autism and executive function deficits.

Last Fall, he and four other grandparents were the experts for the “ADHD Wisdom from Grandparents” panel discussion at Gadsden State Cherokee. The session was moderated by Linda Mays and was well attended in spite of terrible weather. He announced this event on his station every hour of the day. Jerry is an extraordinary advocate on behalf of children with ADHD.

In presenting Jerry’s Award, Linda Mays, veteran TV news anchor, thanked Jerry on behalf of all the children and families that he has helped.
