The Weiss Lake Improvement Association presented the Program Thursday at the Chamber of Commerce Breakfast. Association Member and County Commissioner for District 3, Ronnie Shaw told those in attendance about the Group and its work.  The goal of the association is to continue to improve the quality of Weiss Lake therefore improving the quality of life in the County. Some of their ongoing programs include two $1000 college scholarships for local students.

The association works in conjunction with Alabama Power and Renew Our Rivers in removing trash from the lake. This year that day is set for April 24th. The Group also assists with channel markers through the lake to help with safe navigation. They also have a student led program to assist with trash cleanup at local schools.  The Weiss Lake Improvement Association is a membership organization and invites everyone to participate to help the group do more to Improve the Lake Conditions. Their fund raising event is the Crappie Rodeo.

The  Annual Crappie Rodeo for 2022 begins on February 1st and continues through April 15th. This year there are 1001 Tagged Crappies swimming the waters of Weiss Lake worth a total of $110,350 in Cash and Prizes. There is one fish worth $10,000, 53 fish at $1000 each and the rest will be $50 prizes. The 2022 tag will be located behind the dorsal fin and is orange this year. This is the main fund raiser for the Weiss Lake Improvement Association and brings fishermen to the area from the eastern half of the Country.
