Welsh leads Spring Garden offense in win at Gaston

GADSDEN — Spring Garden senior catcher Luke Welsh appears to have found his stride at the plate.

Welsh went 2-for-3 with a home run, scored twice and drove in a pair of runs in leading the Panthers to a 17-2 Class 2A, Area 12 baseball win at Gaston on Wednesday.

Chapel Pope went 2-for-2 with a RBI for the Panthers (11-7, 3-2) Cam Welsh belted a two-RBI triple and scored twice. Andrew Bates also had a two-RBI triple and scored a run.

Chaz Pope, Ryley Kirk, Landon Gowens, and Grayden Guthrie all added hits for the Panthers.

Spring Garden threw four different pitchers against the Bulldogs, starting with Cam Welsh, then Landon Gowens and Weston Kirk for an inning each. Grayden Guthrie tossed two innings.

Guthrie allowed the only two Bulldog hits, which led to two runs.

The Panthers will next be in action in the Cherokee County Tournament on Saturday.
