West End at Sand Rock football game moved to Thursday

Staff Reports

SAND ROCK – Sand Rock football coach Alan Heath announced Tuesday that the Wildcats’ Class 2A, Region 6 home football game against West End of Walnut Grove has been moved to Thursday night at 7 p.m. at Russell Jacoway Stadium. The move was made in anticipation of rain in forecast on Friday.

Coming off two weeks of quarantine due to COVID-19, Sand Rock is 2-4 overall and 1-3 in region play. West End is 4-3 overall and 1-3 in the region.

This is the first meeting between the two schools in football since 2013. Sand Rock holds the lead in the series 18-3.

The game change is the latest announced because of weather. Gaylesville at Cedar Bluff and Handley at Cherokee County will also be played on Thursday night for the same reason. Kickoffs are still scheduled for 7 p.m.
