iStock/Thinkstock(CHICAGO) — The Chicago White Sox lost to the Oakland A’s 10-2 on Saturday afternoon at Guaranteed Rate Field. They probably could’ve used the arm of the man they were retiring, Mark Buehrle.

Before the game, the Whie Sox retired Buehrle’s No. 56 jersey. “It’s an amazing feeling,” said the 38-year-old Buehrle, “I really can’t put it into words how I feel. … It’s a special day.”

Buehrle is considered the greatest White Sox left-hander in the expansion era, helping the White Sox win the 2005 World Series. The former starter was gifted a four-wheeler and a pickup truck duringt the 30-minute ceremony.

“As I look around this stadium, it is just amazing how much these people love you or how many people came out to see you on this great day,” team owner Jerry Reinsdorf said. “In case you weren’t aware of it, we don’t draw 40,000 every day.”

Hall of Famer Frank Thomas and manager Ozzie Guillen were among several former Buehrle teammates in attendance. “Buehrle, day in and day out, was the same guy, and that’s what makes him so special,” Guillen said. “His teammates love him.”

The five-time All-Star and four-time Gold Glove winner earned 161 or his 214 victories in a White Sox uniform. He is the 11th player in team history to have his number retired.
