Governor Kay Ivey has proclaimed April as Oral Cancer Awareness Month in Alabama. This is particularly significant to the residents of Alabama because Alabama is fifth in rates of oral cavity and oropharyngeal cancer and seventh in rates of oral cavity and oropharyngeal cancer deaths.
The Oral Health Office of the Alabama Department of Public Health has partnered with USA Health Mitchell Cancer Institute in a multifaceted statewide campaign, “WATCH YOUR MOUTH,” designed to bring to the forefront awareness of this life-changing and often catastrophic disease. On April 11, supporters will be wearing burgundy or red to raise awareness.
The RSA Tower buildings in both Montgomery and Mobile will be illuminated in red, and in Birmingham, the sign at Regions Field, the Crescent Building, and other locations will be lighted in red for the same reason.
