Winters’ Run as Sole Chattooga County Commissioner Coming to an End

Jason Winters is coming to the end of his run as long-time sole Commissioner of Chattooga County, Georgia.

Winters came up short in his bid for a fourth term losing by a substantial margin to political newcomer Blake Elsberry in Tuesday’s Republican Run-off Election.  Voters chose Elsberry, by 923 votes, casting 2,699 ballots in his favor; meanwhile Winters garnered 1,776 votes in the 60 to 40% breakdown.

Elsberry will be facing Democratic nominee Jimmy Holbrook in the General Election come November.

Chattooga County voters also chose Gary Woods over former Probate Office worker Teresa Pope for the Republican nomination for Probate Judge.

Woods – an employee with Mt. Vernon Mills in Trion – took 66% of the vote, to Pope’s 34%; Woods will now face Independent candidate Holley Strawn-Gilliland in November.
