According to Etowah County Sheriff Todd Entrekin – an Altoona woman was jailed after her two year old child apparently ingested Xanax.
Medics were dispatched to the home of 21 year old Stephanie Diane Burkhalter on Monday, in response to a report of a child having difficulty breathing.
Burkhalter reportedly first stated she had taken the child to a doctor earlier in the day, but later changed her story, saying the child had instead ingested two Xanax.
She has been charged with the Chemical Endangerment of a Child and with Child Abuse and the Department of Human Resources has now become involved in the case.
Bond for Burkhalter has been set at $25,000.
