Woman Charged with Chemical Endangerment After Death of Four Month Old Child

Sanders, TyelynA Calhoun County woman is facing three counts of Chemical Endangerment in connection with the death of her four month old child.

On August 10th last year (2014) – Anniston Police Officers responded to a residence in the 5000 block of Buggy Lane in reference to a child not breathing. The child was pronounced dead, and at that time, no foul play was suspected. However as in every such case the body was sent to the Alabama Department of Forensic Science for an autopsy, and those results revealed that the child had methamphetamine in the bloodstream.

According to Police Captain Allen George, Tyelyn Kay Sanders, the mother of the infant, did eventually admit to breastfeeding the child, which would explain the methamphetamine in the bloodstream.

Two other children in the home, an eight year old and a two year old, were tested and both showed the presence of methamphetamine in their bloodstream.

Both children were immediately removed by DHR.

That case remains under investigation and will be presented to the grand jury.
