Woman Indicted on Murder Charge in Death of Husband

Murder IndictmentA Floyd County woman – currently serving 20 years behind bars for shooting her husband in January of last year (2013) – has now been indicted for murder.

Police say that 60 year old Janice Charlene Thornton from Rome fired eight rounds into her husband’s head, abdomen, arms and legs with a .22 caliber pistol – as he lay sleeping.

Thornton pled guilty to Aggravated Battery under the Family Violence Act, and Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Crime – in August of 2013.

The victim, Steven Russell Thornton, died last November – and an autopsy determined that he died as the result of delayed complications from multiple gunshot wounds; at that point, the cause of death was ruled a homicide.
