Would-Be Burglar is Forced to Flee in His Underwear

BuckelewAn Anniston homeowner had an unpleasant start to the day when he woke up to find what turned out to be a would-be burglar asleep in the living room floor – and what’s worse, the man was clad only in his underwear.

38 year old Joseph Brannon Buckelew was found around 7:00am last Saturday (on January 17th) in the home on Smith Chapel Road in Boaz. He had apparently made his way into the residence by forcing open the front door and he had damaged several items before passing out in the floor. The elderly homeowner contacted a neighbor, who chased Buckelew from the property using a golf club.

He was taken into custody a short time later by Sardis Police Chief James Harp, and Etowah County Deputy Kip Williams.

Buckelew was charged with one count of Burglary 2nd Degree – which is a felony.

He remains in the Etowah County Detention Center with bond set at $5,000.
